Perennials
All perennials have a winter temperature below which they cannot survive. So, if you live in Zone 5 you can plant any perennial know to survive in that zone. For example, Columbine is a Zone 5, which means that it will "winter-over" in that zone and any warmer (Aone 6 to 11). Dicentra (bleeding hearts) are Zone 3-4; they will survive winter temperatures even colder than Columbine.
Annual Plant Observations
We live in a dynamic climatic environment. Each year Cornell University plants, observes, evaluates, and ranks hundreds of varieties of annuals. This is an invaluable reference for the serious gardeneer to learn what to plant and where to plant it from the experts. Click here for the Annual Bluegrass Lane observations >>
